Are you obsessed with your goal or the path?

I’ve had the pleasure of doing some amazing things in life. Each venture starts out with a goal then I somehow get distracted and lose focus of the goal by focusing on the path. Looking back, I can clearly see where that mind-shift took place and where I got off track.

Has that happened to anyone else out there? My goal was to become a millionaire and 20 years ago I charted a path to get there. At the time, I didn’t care what it took to get there. I did not have a prescribed career in mind to get me there. By that time, I knew working 40, 60, 80 hours a week was not going to get me there. I knew I would have to start a business that had favorable tax benefits (income taxes were killing me).  Real estate was my chosen path.

The real estate path had so much opportunity that it was like chasing rabbits in an open field. Yes, it was lots of fun but I frequently lost focus of the goal, thereby, wasting tons of money and time. Fortunately for me, that initial goal paid off but the road was long and bumpy and this is why I want you to reassess your goal and set a new path.

The initial path you set should be just enough to get you started. Constantly reassess your goal and reevaluate the path to get there. DO NOT GET STUCK ON THE PATH!!!!!!! There are no rewards for taking a path. Reaching your goal is where the reward lies.
