What’s in your basket?

Are you feeling weighted down by all the stuff and things in life that you have to deal with or manage. Long gone are the days of simplicity and leisure whereby each day is filled with an uplifting experience. Maybe you have never had that kind of life or at least not for an extended period of time. Certainly, you can probably look back at some point in your life that kinda makes you wish or long for those days again.

So what has changed since then and now? As time goes by and life marches on, many of us become weighted down by situations and responsibilities. For most of us, our current life is a compilation of everything that proceeded, meaning, life is one add after another.

Yes, it true that all of these responsibilities and experiences are likely necessary for our growth and maturity but there is no rule book that says you must hang on to everything that you’ve ever had in life. For instance, if you have a family with small kids, they require 200% of you time and attention. As they grow and mature, that responsibility should shift from you to them. If you hang on beyond the appropriate time frame, you have made the conscious and deliberate decision not to remove that rock from your basket or rucksack.

When we develop this type of mindset, we go through life accumulating rocks. Life rocks can be family, education, debt, health, relationships, and everything else that we touch during our lifetime. So here’s the tip, take inventory of all the things that you think you are responsible for. Bounce that list off a trusted friend who will tell you the truth. Seek help in jettisoning all the things that’s not your responsibility. Add new things that are beneficial in getting you where your want to be. This, my friend, is the path to success.
